City of Niagara Falls getting review of a cost saving, revenue generating program of city programs
An update for the City of Niagara Falls and its Continuous Improvement Program, also known as Shark Tank.
Senior Manager Jacob Thomas reminded the city it's a program encouraging city staff to think of ways to increase revenue, while making cost savings and operational efficiencies.
He says for every ten program ideas, three have been implemented. "To compare that to the world of Venture Capital, which is what the original Shark Tank TV show is based on, they look for typically 10 to 20% of their ideas to bring forth fruit, and our staff have a 30% success rate, which is quite good, I think."
Over the last 4-years, there have been 265 proposals, with 58 implemented.
He adds hiring a dedicated Realty Services Sales Manager has worked. "Typically this service has been outsourced, through contracting out services, we've now brought that in-house. So, this individual has led the sale of a number of surplus city facilities. The idea is that we have spent more outsourcing it, but now have brought it in-house to save money."
Successful ideas from 2025 include more electronic billing, instead of using paper.
