SIU Clears OPP Officer After Collision

Special Investigations Unit made the ruling in relation to Welland crash in September

A provincial police officer has been cleared of doing anything wrong in relation to a collision in Welland in which a 50-year old man was seriously hurt.

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit says on September 5th the officer tried a u-turn in his marked cruiser on Highway 58A, while trying to find a pedestrian who was reportedly walking in traffic.

While making the turn, a Harley Davidson bike hit the side of the police car, leaving the rider with fractures to his ribs, spine and pelvis.

The SIU director found while the officer was not careful enough in making the turn, there weren't any grounds to warrant criminal charges against the officer.
