Foundation will support local sports programs and work to attract more sporting events
A new organization has been created to support sports in Niagara.
Sport Niagara is part of the legacy plan of the 2022 Canada Summer Games, which put the region on the global stage.
"For 16 days, Niagara celebrated the wonderful achievements of Canada’s best young athletes," stated Doug Hamilton, Board Chair of the Niagara 2022 Canada Games Host Society. "Our vision for these Games was to host an event that would inspire, transform and unify Niagara, and that would also leave a lasting legacy for our community."
The organization will receive funding from the 2022 Canada Games Legacy Fund, which received over $3 million in revenue from last year's Games.
Hamilton says money will be used to help support local sports programs and bring more sporting events to Niagara.
