Council votes against proposal due to animal welfare concerns
St. Catharines city council has decided against setting up a reptile zoo at Fairview Mall.
During last night's meeting, council unanimously rejected a proposal from Reptilia, due in large part to animal welfare concerns.
The proposal included an exemption to the city's animal control bylaw, which prohibits certain species.
The company was hoping to set up in the former Ikea space.
