A man from St. Catharines is facing weapon-related charges.
Around 5:50 Tuesday morning, an officer about to report for duty noticed a man walking near the area of North Street and Geneva Street holding what appeared to be a gun.
Police located the man nearby and arrested him, but no weapon was found on him.
However, police did find a shotgun next to a car in the area where he had last been spotted.
The NRP Service Real Time Operations Centre was able to confirm the suspect had been carrying the weapon.
33 year old Andrew Sheldrick was charged with several offences, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111, ext. 1002200.
