Public Health reminding residents to avoid contact with wild animals.
The Niagara Region is reminding residents not to apprach any wild animals.
The reminder comes after a skunk in St. Catharines has tested positive for rabies.
So far this year, five skunks in Niagara have tested positive.
Pet owners are advised to make sure cats and dogs are up to date on rabies vaccinations, and prevent pets from roaming off-leash or unsupervised.
Niagara Region Public Health is available 24/7 at 905-688-8248, ext. 7590 or toll free 1-888-505-6074 to take calls about animal bites.
You can report wild animals exhibiting abnormal behaviour to local animal control services:
- Welland SPCA: 905-735-1552
- Lincoln County Humane Society: 905-682-0767
- Niagara Falls Humane Society: 905-356-4404
