Council voted to ask Ontario government to declare it an epidemic
The Ontario government will be hearing from the City of St. Catharines concerning calls to declare intimate partner violence an epidemic.
Council voted for a motion from Councillor Robin McPherson on Monday night to pressure the province to do so.
The city made its declaration on September 25th, all based on the Renfrew inquest, which was called after the murder of three Ottawa women in 2015.
McPherson referred to recent events in the region to point out how important it is for action to be taken, and to keep supporting organizations that help people who are suffering.
