A provincial grant of $4.4-million covers most of the cost, the city picks up the rest, the work to start this spring
Over $6.8-million will soon be spent renovating Sunset Beach in St. Catharines.
Senior project manager Ralph Sholtz says phase one starts this spring on the north end, closing that to the public.
He says phase two starts in the summer, on the boat launch and other lake initiatives, to the following spring.
Then, there's phase 3. "After the summer, the rest of the park will be closed, and that's when the bulk of the parking lots, beach mitigation, board walking area, and trails, and playgrounds, will be done."
The goal to have it reopened by Victoria Day long weekend, next year.
The city's Manager of Community Initiatives Eric Lamothe says the province is paying most of it. "The provincial government is contributing 73.33% in total eligible cost, to a maximum of nearly $4.4-million towards the project. The city is responsible for contributing 26.7%, which is about $1.6-million."
