City staff will look at this for holidays, special events after councillor expressed concern of ticketing during events
The City of Thorold to look further into parking exemptions on specific dates throughout the year.
Councillor Jim Handley's motion passed at council, which will require city staff to report back on how to implement this for holidays and special events.
The councillor says at times they need flexibility for increased demand. "We're looking at attracting individuals downtown, the black mark on this is they come here and they go back to their car and they got a parking ticket because they went to a park, and were parked downtown for more than 2 hours, and it was during an event that the city was encouraging people to come to."
City staff is expected to report back in the spring.
He adds Remembrance Day is one of those days.
"Seeing that we had an issue again this year, as we did last year, as we were at the memorial and there after the memorial, residents were being issued parking infractions, or their cars were being tagged to see how long they stayed there, and then they were coming back to be ticketed."
The councillor wanted Christmas Day included, but his council colleagues agreed to include the whole month of December.
