Construction closes eastbound lanes, then it'll switch to westbound
The Ministry of Transportation will start nightly lane closures of the Thorold Tunnel Friday.
Construction on the Highway 58 tunnel under the Welland Canal has already started with single lane closures, but Friday you can expect full closures of the south tube 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane when the south tube is not closed.
Work to the south tube is expected to be completed on April 24, before moving onto the north tube (westbound lanes).
The north tube work is expected to last about 20 days.
The project is expected to be complete on June 28, according to the City of Thorold.
