The Supreme Court of Canada has ordered documents relating to the estate of murder victims Honey and Barry Sherman to be unsealed for media access.
The estate sought to have the files sealed, arguing the safety of the trustees could be put at risk if the documents were unsealed.
The court ruled unanimously that the trustees failed to prove a serious risk to their privacy and safety, and the files should be unlocked in the name of public interest.
A lower court judge ordered the files to be protected in 2018.
