You'll now have to submit a site plan application, if you're going to use a shipping or a cargo container in Fort Erie.
You will also have to pay a $747 site plan fee, unless you decide to go with one of the town's pre-approved design options for residential and commercial uses.
Mayor Wayne Redekop says Town Council approved changes to the zoning bylaw on Monday.
"The role re-purposed shipping containers play in our community differs based on the needs of the owner and the location of the shipping container. If re-purposed shipping containers are not properly managed through Town bylaws and site plan controls, we are exposing our community and Town to some potentially harmful and unintended consequences."
The changes also include specific setback and locational provisions.
