Money will help five different projects, including the Lockview Park redevelopment and the new Welland Street Trail.
Vale Canada Limited has announced a $1.25 million community investment fund that will benefit several community projects in Port Colborne.
The company, which is one of the world's largest mining companies, says it's important to give back to the communities in which it operates.
"Vale is very proud to partner with the City of Port Colborne with this fund," said Nadeem Khan, Manager of Vale’s Port Colborne Refinery. "As one of the largest employers in the City of Port Colborne, it’s important for us to give back to the community that has been home to our refinery for more than 100 years."
The money will be divided between five different initiatives, including improvements to Nickel Beach, the redevelopment of Lockview Park and the new Welland Street Trail, which will connect Nickel Beach to Port Colborne's downtown.
It will also include the naming right to Port Colborne's future Waterfront Centre and a Captain level sponsorship of the annual Canal Day Marine Heritage Festival, both for the next 15 years.
