Avoids nationwide strike
If you have Via Rail tickets you don't have to worry about any cancellations because of a looming strike.
Unifor and Via Rail have reached a tentative deal avoiding a complete shut down of rail service from coast to coast.
Details of the new contract are not being released, pending ratification, but Via Rail's statement notes that it will be retroactive to January 1st, and in effect through December 31st, 2024.
As talks continued to progress, the union offered to push back several deadlines that would have initiated the job action and derailed the company's operations.
