Environment Canada says the area may get funnel clouds this afternoon into the evening
A weather advisory has been issued for Niagara.
According to the weather office, the area could get funnel clouds this afternoon into the evening.
Funnel clouds are generated by a weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms.
While they're not considered dangerous near the ground, there is a chance that the rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.
Environment Canada says landspout tornados typically don't cause a lot of damage, but can still topple trees, toss debris or damage roofs.
If you see a funnel cloud developing, you're advised to take shelter immediately.
