The City of Welland has had to layoff 15 of its full-time CUPE staff due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Temporary layoff notices have also been issued to 12 full-time transit drivers, 17 full-time public works casual employees, and 23 part-time staff ranging from transit terminal clerks to recreation staff.
The Welland Public Library has issued notices to 22 part-time staff members and eight full-time CUPE staff.
The Welland Museum has issued notices to two part-time staff members and two full-time contact staff members.
CAO Gary Long says these decisions have not been taken lightly.
The City recently decided to extend the closure of all public facilities and cancelled all events and programs leading up to June 30th.
