Niagara Centre MPP was at rally as negotiations for contracts took place
Niagara Centre's NDP MPP is calling the state of ambulatory care in Niagara a crisis.
Jeff Burch was at a rally yesterday at White Oaks in Niagara-on-the-Lake, as contract negotiations were held for paramedics and dispatchers.
He says workers are facing too much pressure, and people are waiting too long for care. "This is largely a problem of our own making. With Bill 124, we've restricted workers' wages. We did not treat them very well through the pandemic, and afterward, and now those workers are leaving for other jobs."
He adds the government trods out a bunch of statistics of what it's doing, but people do not believe it.
"It's the workers on the front lines that have the solutions to these problems, and they're not being listened to. So, we need them to direct, those who are bargaining with those unions, to start implementing the solutions that those workers bring to the table."
He says the government needs to start properly supporting them.
