A Niagara Region police officer accused of assaulting a fellow constable who shot him was slated to appear in court today, but the trial has been postponed until tomorrow.
Proceedings were delayed one day due to a COVID-19 issue.
Constable Nathan Parker has pleaded not guilty to assault with a weapon.
According to the CBC, Justice Anthony Leitch says someone involved with the case had to be tested for COVID-19.
Parker was charged following a November 29th, 2018 altercation with Detective Sgt Shane Donovan.
The men were investigating a crash near Roland Road and Effingham Street in Pelham, when Parker allegedly left his post re-directing traffic without permission.
Donovan says when Parker was aggressive when he was confronted about it.
The two struggled, and Donovan shot Parker ten times, with bullets hitting his nose, leg and shoulder.
While the SIU initially charged Donovan with charges including attempted murder, they were dropped by the Crown.
Parker has a history of disciplinary hearings relating to violence.
