Baldinelli says Ottawa protests "not a national emergency facing Canada."
Niagara Falls MP Tony Baldinelli speaking out against the Trudeau government invoking the "Emergencies Act."
Baldinelli telling the House of Commons last night that he strongly opposes the measure and doesn't think demonstrations in Ottawa constitute a national emergency.
"Let’s be clear: the protests that are happening outside of these walls is a political emergency for this Liberal government," Baldinelli notes. "It is not a national emergency facing Canada."
The MP also says law enforcement in other areas, including the recent protest at the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie, were able to use their existing powers to end blockades without incident, and imposing the Emergencies Act sets a dangerous precedent.
"The Government of Canada should not have the power to close the bank accounts of hardworking Canadians simply on the suspicion of supporting political causes of which the government does not approve or support."
Ottawa Police have begun moving in on protesters and making arrests, with three convoy organizers now facing charges.
Ottawa demonstrations against COVID-19 mandates are now entering a fourth week.
