"Companies" will claim work is needed
Yet another warning from police to be mindful of door to door scams as the warmer weather approaches.
Police say now is when many people start considering outdoor work, and that's when scammers may show up to do driveway or roof top work.
These people use high pressure techniques to get a contract, get a down payment, and then sometimes claim the work will take longer.
Home owners may feel pressured since part of a roof is now uncovered, or covered with a tarp.
Police urge home owners to get:
- An itemized list of materials to be used
- The cost of the items
- The estimated time of the project
- The cost of labour for the time estimated
- The name of the company and/or the company’s registered business number
- Contact information for the company
Police add not all companies are scammers.
