Gas and food prices play tug of war with number
A very slight drop in Canada's inflation rate for September to 6.9%.
Statistics Canada says it was 7.0 per cent in August, the decline motivated by lower prices at the gas pumps.
Despite the drop, grocery bills continue to climb at the fastest rate since August 1981, with prices up 11.4% compared with a year ago.
Statistics Canada says food prices have outstretched the overall inflation rate for 10 straight months.
