Bad news for football fans.
The CFL has announced that the 2021 season start date will be pushed back, and the season will be shorter than usual.
The season was slated to start on June 10th, with 18 games for each team.
Training camp was expected to start in mid-May and the first exhibition game was originally scheduled for May 23rd.
However, due to the third wave of COVID-19, the CFL board of governors has decided to start the season on August 5th, and bring the schedule down to 14 games.
This means that the Grey Cup game is now slated to be played on December 12th in Hamilton, though it was initially scheduled for November 21st.
Four of the league's franchises - the Toronto Argonauts, the Ottawa Redblacks, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Montreal Alouettes - operate in Ontario and Quebec, two provinces experiencing a tough third wave of COVID-19.
The CFL warns that could change again, depending on the approval of public health officials.
