There have been 8 fires in the last two weeks, all preventable, mostly caused by unattended cooking, careless smoking
A plea from St. Catharines fire department to keep fire safety top of mind, after a number of recent preventable fires.
Chief Dave Upper says over the last two weeks there were eight, causes including unattended cooking, a space heater and careless smoking.
The fire service says to stay in the kitchen when cooking, turn off the burner if you must leave, and unattended cooking is the leading cause of fires in Ontario.
To prevent electrical fires, use only CSA approved appliances and extension cords.
When smoking, be alert, and do it outside, and never smoke in bed... and make sure the butts are out.
And, Town of Pelham reminds you to turn the clock back one hour Sunday morning at 2, when we fall back to Standard time.
That's when it's also good to check your smoke alarm.
