Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital is providing prescriptions for the liquid form of Tylenol in response to a pain reliever shortage.
TORONTO/OTTAWA - Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital and Ottawa's Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario have both been hit hard by a pain reliever shortage.
Both hospitals have issued statements, saying they're going everything they can to maintain their supplies of Advil and Tylenol for admitted patients. They're also going to help find solutions for the patients that are discharged.
SickKids sent out a memo to caregivers earlier this week, saying it will provide prescriptions for the liquid form of acetaminophen, also known as Tylenol. A spokeswoman says some pharmacies might have the over-the-counter drugs in stock, but others might only have large bottles that will need to be dispensed by a pharmacist.
A spokesperson for Food, Health & Consumer Products of Canada says the pain reliever shortages have been reported in some "pockets" of Canada.
