Councillors Voice Speeding Concerns

Niagara Falls to address concerns in Chippawa and on St. Michael Avenue

Expect some greater scrutiny by the City of Niagara Falls when it comes to what drivers are getting away with on certain roads.

Councillor Mona Patel says she was recently in Chippawa, at the Tim Horton's by the bridge, and was amazed at what she saw.

"And I actually saw a few cars flying by, because they wanted to avoid the lights, so they were going at least 70 or 80kms, or faster.  I then spoke to a few Chippawa area residents and they say this kind of thing happens all the time."

General Manager of Municipal Works Erik Nichols says they'll look into speed reduction measures, and talk to the NRP.

Not long after Councillor Chris Dabrowski brought up concerns with St. Michael Avenue, and surrounding streets.

The Municipal Works GM addressed his concerns for speed humps on St. Michael.  "I believe there is a reason why we haven't put those in, because it's a natural arterial road corridor.  A lot of times our speed hump criteria excludes higher arterial roads because it creates more problems than it solves."
