Niagara's top doctor says he wants to see the Canada-U.S border closed until the fall.
Despite calls from politicians and businesses to re-open the border, Hirji says the Delta variant still remains a big threat.
He says he would recommend extending the current closure this month, and re-consider the situation in the fall, in order to give both countries more time to vaccinate residents.
This comes as local leaders urge Ottawa to re-open the border, due to a drop in COVID-19 cases.
Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati says border cities desperately need a re-opening plan in order to help hospitality businesses stay afloat.
The current border closure is set to expire on July 21st.
