City will receive $50,000 to support climate change adaption planning.
The City of St. Catharines is getting $50,000 from the federal government for climate change adaption planning.
The money will flow through the Municipal Asset Management Program.
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities has announced more than $3.91 million in funding for 88 Ontario projects through the Municipal Asset Management Plan.
Developing an asset management plan will help the City manage municipal infrastructure assets as well as make long term investment decisions that are driven by data.
"The enhanced municipal asset management plan will strengthen the City’s ability to address and adapt to the effects of climate change. The City also plans to share the knowledge gained through the project with other local municipalities and Brock University to help build innovative local climate solutions in Niagara," said Director of Engineering, Facilities and Environmental Services Anthony Martuccio.
In 2019, city council declared a climate emergency to recognize actions needed to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Officials say the money will help build innovative local climate solutions.
