Niagara West MPP agrees the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program meant to give financial relief to homeowners impacted by flooding could be reviewed.
Sam Oosterhoff tells us assessments of Lincoln homes found they were not eligible under current criteria.
However, the town is getting help from the Municipal Disaster Relief program, which is another program. "That's the on the ground emergency operation managers when it comes to reacting to events. I know that's a fund they're working through with the municipalities as to how much they're going to get, and I know the Premier told the mayors to hang onto their receipts so they get that support."
The Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program is for when private insurance is not there. "It's for very specific targeted areas, for where they can't access private insurance. Also for cases in which people have low incomes, and are single income."
He adds massive investment is taking place around Lincoln for better water management.
