It appears Pelham Mayor Marvin Junkin will keep his seat, after winning by 15 votes over Frank Adamson last week.
Town council did not proceed with a motion enabling a recount, as requested by Adamson.
Councillor Kevin Ker said he would support a recount if problems with the voting system. "But there were no indication of irregularities, in his written request submission to council. He has recently publicized, in the media, that if there is a cost associated with taking this matter to court, he will move on."
Other councillors agreed with Ker when he expressed confidence in the electronic voting system. "Previously when there were paper ballots done at the provincial level, we noticed people challenged... did people look at them right, did they count them right? We have machinery in place that runs the ballots, it tells you if the ballots are correctly done, and if there's a problem with the ballot, it is returned at that time, even before the voter leaves."
On the advise of the Integrity Commissioner, Mayor Junkin removed himself from the discussion, returning after the vote was held.
