Christopher Newton credited with putting the NOTL theatre on the map
Newton served as the Festival’s Artistic Director from 1979 until 2002.
In 1996, Newton was appointed a member of the Order of Canada and in 2018 he was named an Officer.
In a tweet the Festival thanking Newton for his “ innumerable contributions to the Shaw Festival and Canadian theatre. Your light and guidance will be missed.”
The theatre say it will celebrate the life of Mr. Newton at an appropriate time.
