Mayor Bill Steele outlined support for evidence-based governance review
A letter has been sent directly to Premier Doug Ford from Port Colborne opposing municipal amalgamation, and supporting evidence-based governance review.
Mayor Bill Steele writes his city is strong with real momemtum, and forced amalgamation is neither necessary or beneficial.
He highlights recent progress, including more than $2-billion in new investment, more housing approvals, childcare spaces, and local initiatives to improve healthcare.
The city is also working with the province to create a locally-owned Municipal Services Corporation, to support water and wastewater services for the East Side Employment Lands.
The letter adds decades of research show amalgamation does not work, but the city supports working with regional and provincial government to find a solution to this issue.
