The Niagara Parks Commission says its newest landmark attraction will begin welcoming visitors July 1st
The historic Power Station has undergone a major facelift after Niagara Parks was given a $25 million dollar provincial loan.
Constructed in 1905, as the Canadian Niagara Power Company generating station, the massive facility was a historic achievement in engineering and architecture, remaining operational until 2006.
Guests will be treated to interactive exhibits that explore the history and science of hydroelectric power generation at the station.
Parks officials say a nighttime immersive multimedia experience entitled "Currents: Niagara’s Power Transformed" will bring the dormant station back to life for visitors utilizing state of the art sound and 3D projection mapping technology.
Next year, the park's says construction will be complete on the underground portion of the station that will see visitors travel down nearly 200 feet below the main floor via elevator, to reach the tailrace tunnel which connects the plant to the Niagara River and includes a spectacular viewing portal at the base of Niagara Falls.
