This is one step closer to hovercraft service between Niagara and Toronto over Lake Ontario
More legwork has been done to get hovercraft service moving on Lake Ontario between Niagara and Toronto.
President of Hoverlink Ontario Erika Potrz says they've just secured a port in Toronto, at Billy Bishop Airport.
It took some time in discussions with certain government bodies. "To Transport Canada, that will be our oversight body for all marine, and federally regulated waterways. We had to complete public information sessions, and meet with various stakeholders on both sides of the lake."
She explains she's spent enough time between Niagara and Toronto in traffic, with the goal being to give options to driving the QEW.
"And I think we're going to give that time back to people, and that's what excites me the most. It's the reason why I'm willing to work so hard to get this over the line, because I want to give people back their time. They should be home, enjoying dinners with their family, and not sitting in traffic on the QEW."
She adds it'll still be a few years before service starts, as the hovercrafts have not been built yet.
