Hundreds of deaths have been reported after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria this morning.
UPDATE 3 (5:35 p.m., February 6th): The death toll now sits at over 3,400.
However, authorities say rescuers continue to search for survivors in the rubble, so the death toll is expected to rise even more.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared a seven day mourning period in response.
Meanwhile, over 20 countries have sent experts and supplies to help rescue efforts.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is prepared to help any way it can.

TURKEY/SYRIA - A search for survivors is underway after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria.
Over 1,400 deaths had been reported as of 7:15 a.m. Eastern Time today, as the death toll continues to rise.
Emergency officials say hundreds of buildings have been toppled and crews are working through tangles of metal and giant piles of concrete to find survivors.
The earthquake could be felt as far away as Cairo and it was followed by several aftershocks, including that measured 6.6 on the Richter scale.
