The federal and provincial governments have signed broadband infrastructure contracts that will bring reliable internet access to homes and businesses in Niagara.
Up to $4.4 million has been committed by both levels of government in order to deliver an improved and modern broadband network.
In turn, the network is expected to create educational and economic opportunities in remote, rural and underserved areas of Southwestern Ontario.
The project is valued at about $21.2 million, and it's estimated to provide reliable internet access to nearly 5629 homes and businesses in the region.
It's anticipated that the network's service will start around the second half of 2022.
Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs says that this will help businesses expand.
"The construction of broadband infrastructure in Niagara Region will help businesses to expand, create new job opportunities and connect more people to the services and information they need."
