There is still no word on when kids in Niagara will be heading back to class.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce announces $381 million to keep schools safe from COVID-19.
The funds are being provided through the federal Safe Return to Class Fund.
Lecce promised $50 million towards improving air quality and ventilation in schools, as well as $65 million towards health and safety.
He also announced $10 million in funding towards mental health initiatives, and spoke of the need for kids to be learning in-class.
"We agree with parents and medical experts that kids need to be learning in class - alongside their friends and teachers - as it is crucial for their mental wellbeing and development. We will continue to follow expert medical advice and work to get all schools open, for children in all regions of our province."
Additionally, teacher candidates who are graduating this year will be temporarily certified in order to stabilize staffing levels.
Today, over 520,000 kids returned to school.
When asked about a return date for kids not back in class yet, Lecce said that he hopes to have an announcement in the coming days.
When kids do go back, there will be additional safety measures including provincewide access to targeted asymptomatic testing , and mandatory masking for student in grades one - three.
