Police called to St. Catharines area
The province's Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a man was shot dead by Niagara Regional Police.
Around 9:00 p.m. last night, officers were called to a home on Melody Trail, after receiving a report about a man with a knife.
According to the SIU, when police arrived at the door, the man approached them with a knife, and was shot dead by the officers.
A post-mortem will take place tomorrow, and the SIU is urging anyone with information, including videos and photos, to contact them at 1-800-787-8529 or online here.
