Niagara MPP Wayne Gates says the government must act immediately in response to the COVID-19 outbreak at Oakwood Park Lodge.
The outbreak was declared on December 12th, and over 80 residents have tested positive for the virus.
Additionally, over 50 staff members have also received a positive diagnosis.
Gates says that the Ford government needs to step in and take over this home.
"We have to move quickly to protect these residents and ensure they have the care they need to fight the virus. The Ford government must take action immediately if we are to contain the spread of COVID-19 in this home and prevent more deaths."
He also says he has received complaints of chronic understaffing, lack of communication from the owners of the home, and a lack of personal protective equipment.
In addition, he claims that he has heard stories of staff members self-isolating without pay.
"We’ve heard appalling stories from this home of PSWs having to work without proper PPE putting themselves, and their families, at risk. At least 60 have now been infected, and have to stay home without pay during the holidays."
