Niagara Falls Waits on Speed Cameras

Councillor Lori Lococo has motion to keep them with points explaining why, but will wait for province to decide on if they stay

City of Niagara Falls, as with so many other cities, is waiting on the Ontario government's move to eliminate speed cameras.

Council is holding on to a motion by Councillor Lori Lococo with reasons why the cameras stay, which includes letting the province know.

Councillor Tony Baldinelli has been talking to people on McLeod Road, alongside Councillor Mona Patel.  "Crossing by St. Mike's, and why aren't we installing flashing lights and speed bumps.  Those flashing lights are key, I think, they have them everywhere else I've been, I'm surprised we don't have them."

Yesterday the province signaled it is moving forward with getting rid of them.

Baldinelli also spoke of Lundy's Lane.  "For example, down by Montrose to Kalar, where do you cross?  A kilometre down the road, to the next stop light?  We need crossing areas so that we can make this tourist town more accessible."

There is money expected to come to improve traffic safety measures from the province.
