Money is going to St. Catharines and Port Colborne
The federal government is stepping up to help with home building in Niagara.
St. Catharines MP Chris Bittle announced yesterday that $25.7-million will be invested through the federal government's $4-billion Housing Accelerator Fund.
Housing Minister Sean Fraser says the money will help put up almost 700 homes in the next three years, and more than 12,000 builds over the next decade.
The city adds it'll create a municipal development corporation to help with the building.
Ottawa is not leaving Port Colborne out of the equation.
Niagara Centre MP Vance Badawey announced $9-million to help build a 5-storey apartment building on Chestnut Street.
He says that'll provide 41-units for low income seniors and single parent households led by women.
The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says the Port Colborne work has been designed by Whiteline Architects of St. Catharines and built by Rankin Construction.
