Police services board approved buying guns from Canadian company, agreed Trump could change his mind anytime
As with most organizations, Niagara Regional police are balancing where they get supplies from as the US tariff war rages.
This morning the police services board approved buying guns from Canadian company Rampart, while monitoring supplies from Austria shipped through the US to Canada.
Member Bill Steele addressed a police staff report. "I know you're being kind to the President of the United States when you say tariffs are fluid. This morning he woke up and came up with a new idea on tariffs on automobiles now, that they don't need cars made in Canada... he just doesn't understand."
The board is also seeking a tariff exemption of 6 months lasting to October.
Member Kevin Gibson and staff agreed on the uncertainty. "But there would be no tariff on the Glock 45 gun just because they came through the states..... (Gibson).... Thank you... well, that's today... there's tomorrow."
Chief Bill Fordy reassured the board staff are working to find the best deals as the tariff situation changes.
