The leader of Ontario's Liberal party says he is keeping an "open mind" about teaming up with NDP after the upcoming provincial election.
Ontario Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca says he is open to forming a formal or informal coalition with the NDP after June's election.
Following news that the federal Liberals reached an agreement with the NDP that would see the NDP supporting the Liberals through 2025, Del Duca was asked at Queens Park if a similar deal could be reached in Ontario.
Del Duca told reporters that Doug Ford is the "wrong person" for the job, and his mind is "open" to the idea.
While the deal between the federal Liberals and NDP does ensure Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has NDP support on budgets and confidence motions, it is not a formal coalition, since no cabinet positions are being given to members of Jagmeet Singh's party.
Del Duca noted he and NDP Leader Andrea Horwath have not spoken about any sort of agreement in the event Ford's Progressive Conservatives don't win a majority government in the June 2nd election.
However, he did say he believes Ontario residents want to see parties working together on shared priorities.
"I think working across party lines and collaborating is a really important thing to do and so I will continue to push that kind of an agenda because I believe that's what the people of this province want," he said.
Horwath told reporters today that she isn't prepared to support a Doug Ford government, but didn't comment on whether the NDP would work with the Liberals to unseat Ford.
