This will happen in the spring at Port Dalhousie, for section of Canal that dates back roughly 200 years
A part of St. Catharines with history dating back to the early 1800s will finally have an official name.
City council has approved the name "Old Lock One Commons" for the outdoor community space at 45 Lakeport Road in Port Dalhousie.
The space was Lock One, for the 2nd Welland Canal, which was used from 1835 to 1945, you can still see the stone walls today.
Earlier this year the city asked for naming suggestions, and received over 200, with variations of Old Lock One Commons, and that name won with 96 votes in a 2nd round engagement.
The city will have a ribbon cutting ceremony in the spring.
