Parts of Niagara Recover from Flooding

Town of Lincoln working at areas most impacted by Wednesday rain

Reassurances from the Town of Lincoln it is working to clear areas impacted by heavy rain from last week.

Town staff say there was about 60mm, well over 2-inches last Wednesday, and saturated land from winter does not help.

Chief Administrative Officer Mike Kirkopoulos says they're focusing on priority areas.  "I think people want to point to this grate, or that grate, and maybe this needed to be cleaned out, and that could've been done to avoid a flood.  But with the amount of rain that we received in that short period of time, a lot of it is just based on volume."

He adds places in Mississauga, to Hamilton and other Niagara areas had the same.

Discussion also included concerns about how well the re-configured Konkle Creek could handle the rain.

Director of Public Works Dave Graham says part of the redesign included a flood plain, to handle more water.  "My understanding of Konkle Creek, from the pictures I saw, and the feedback I got, it worked well.  It had major flows in it, and that maybe looks concerning, with that much flow happening in high levels, but it did work well."

Town staff say they're looking at ways to prevent further impacts of flooding.
