Organizers of Rankin run at Brock University overwhelmed at community support
Extreme gratitude has been expressed by the run director of Saturday's Rankin Cancer run at Brock University.
Mary Ann Edwards is still overwhelmed at the roughly 3,000 people showing up, in the pelting rain, including an 86-year old who was one of the last volunteers to leave.
She adds a fire fighter saw a friend of his who doesn't have long to live. "He looked at her and asked why she was there. She looked at him with a huge smile and said she wouldn't miss it for the world."
She says teams will continue runs until the end of November.
She also says people came from Montreal, as well as 86-year old Tom Rankin and his group from Boston.
And it's not just running that raises money. "It can be anything... one lady in Hamilton last year, didn't speak for 24 hours, and she raised over $5,000, she wrote notes. Her family didn't want her to speak, they loved it."
She says two bands performed on Saturday, happy to work their way through the rain.
