The provincial government is devoting $15 million to sports and recreation in the province.
The money will be used for four initiatives.
SPORT4ONTARIO will receive $3 million for a pilot program designed to promote mental wellness and safety in sports for kids and families.
Sixty-three provincial sport organizations will split $3.6 million to support community clubs that provide access to sports such as skiing, soccer and volleyball.
Another $6.36 million will be given to Quest for Gold Canada to financially assist athletes who have reached national competition status.
National-level athletes will receive a one-time increase of up to $8,400.
The remaining $2.35 million will be used for post-secondary education scholarships for athletes on 17 Ontario Hockey League teams.
Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries Lisa MacLeod says the move is one way to ensure a strong sports sector in the province.
"We are committed to supporting the sector during the pandemic and ensuring that, through programs like these, sport and recreation remains at the heart of Ontario's communities."
