Province plans to hire 193 new inspections staff for long-term care homes.
Ontario is investing $20 million to hire new inspection staff and launch a new inspectors program for long-term care homes.
Rod Phillips, Minister of Long-Term Care, made the announcement today.
The province plans to hire 193 new inspectors by next fall.
"Our government has a plan to fix Ontario’s long-term care system, and increasing accountability, enforcement, and transparency in the sector is a key part of it," said Rod Phillips, Minister of Long-Term Care. "We are doubling the number inspectors in the field and launching new and improved proactive inspections to give residents the quality of care they deserve."
Phillips also says this will ensure Ontario has a ratio of one inspector for every two homes, and many of the inspectors will have an investigative background.
As well, the new proactive inspections program is being implemented to help with the process of responding to complaints and critical incidents.
