Residents are urged to have an emergency plan and keep extra supplies on hand
The province is reminding Ontarians to be prepared as the winter season approaches.
Ontarians are being advised to have an emergency plan and keep supplies on hand in case of emergencies like heavy snow, ice storms and power outages.
Emergency Management Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria says you should make sure your family has what it needs to be self-sufficient for up to three days.
"Safety starts with having a plan and being prepared. From developing an emergency plan for your household, to ensuring your family has what it needs to be self-sufficient for up to three days, there are simple things we can do now to keep ourselves and loved ones safe when it matters most."
He suggests keeping a winter survival kit with the following items in your car:
- charged phone
- water
- non-perishable food
- flashlight
- blanket and warm clothes
- jumper cables
- shovel
- traction mats or sand
- candles and a lighter or matches
He also suggests having a 72 hour kit for your home.
You're also advised to check weather and road conditions before driving.
