An emergency order to temporarily pause residential evictions has been put in place by the province of Ontario.
The move is being done to ensure people are not forced out of their homes while the province is under a stay at home order.
Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing says that the move is necessary in order to ensure the safety of Ontarians.
"By temporarily pausing residential evictions, we are ensuring that all Ontarians are able to stay home, stay safe, and save lives. Our government will ensure that residential evictions continue to be paused for the remainder of the state of emergency, as long as it lasts."
This is now the second time in under a year that the province has temporarily banned evictions.
The province states that the emergency order will also protect homeowners facing evictions due to court orders for property possession.
Other measures the Ontario government has introduced to protect tenants include freezing rent and requiring that landlords attempt to negotiate a repayment agreement before evicting a tenant.
