Officials say making students choose between an "academic" or "applied" track has been shown to disproportionately impact Black and low income students, resulting in lower graduation rates.
Beginning in September, all Grade 9 subjects, including English, French, science and geography, will be offered in one stream.
However, streaming will remain in place for Grade 10.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce told reporters this afternoon that Ontario was the only province engaging in the practice, and he wants to make sure all children have an equal shot at success.
